Swedish Radio Show Poporama was broadcasted on Sveriges Radio Program 3 (P3) between the years of 1974 and 1984. In 1974 it replaced the then top 10 show Tio i Topp and in 1984 it was replaced itself by the new show Tracks.
Main presenter and host during all these years were Kaj Kindvall, sometimes substituted by Leif Wivatt, Anders Kihlstedt or Sture Karlsson.
A typical Poporama show was one hour long and some 15 songs were played. 6 or 7 of them was kept between programs in someting called Heta Högen (‘the hot pile’) while up to 10 of the songs were new contenders. Each week saw a ‘this weeks Smash Hit’ which meant that one of the previous weeks contenders scored very high with the audience. Radio listeners voted on their favorite songs by sending postcards to the studio in Norrköping, Sweden.
All in all a total of 434 Poporama shows was broadcasted over 10 years.
The first show was broadcasted in July 1974 and the last one just before the summer break in 1984.
